Azobe

A very large cylindrical tree, also known as Bongossi and Ekki. Has light brown splint, deep red / brownish core, cupped. The Grain is interlocked, with a coarse texture and low natural luster. This tough, durable wood can be difficult to work, but its longevity (especially in marine applications) make it well worth the effort. Ekki also has a pronounced blunting effect on cutting edges.

Gluing can also pose problems due to its density and oil content. Because the wood species is very water resistant, it is often used outdoors. Suitable for patio planks, harbor logs, lock gates, bridge decks, ramps, industrial floors, sleepers and for benches and furniture. Previously used for all Danish ferry ports. Also suitable for chemical containers, as azobe is acid resistant.
